Upcoming Activity and Fundraiser
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to let all of you know what will be going on with Best Buddies in the next few weeks: Our March activity is coming up, and it will be our community service activity. It is going to be a PARK CLEAN-UP AND ICE CREAM ACTIVITY. It will take place THURSDAY MARCH 22ND at PECAN PARK ON E. STARR from 3:00 - 4:30PM. We will start at Pecan Park, cleaning up trash in teams. Whichever team picks up the most trash will win a prize. Make sure to wear something you don't mind getting dirty, and we will provide the gloves and trashbags. After the trash clean-up we will carpool to Dairy Queen for some ice cream. Make sure to bring money for this. Then we will head back to Pecan Park to wait for the buddies' to be picked up. We will be having a GARAGE SALE/BAKE SALE FUNDRAISER on SATURDAY APRIL 14TH. This will take place at JENNIFER'S HOUSE, 2411 PEARL STREET from 6:30AM - 2:00PM. To make this work we will need donations from you, your families, your buddies and their families, so please, when you are home over spring break ask your parents, siblings, grandparents, to get rid of their old stuff and donate it to Best Buddies. Talk to your buddies and their families and see if they have stuff to get rid of. Go through your stuff, it is time for spring cleaning! Contact Janelle (281-467-1892 or cbd@bestbuddiessfa.com) or Jennifer (361-648-8281 or treasurer@bestbuddiessfa.com) so that we can find a way to get your stuff from you. We would like anything: clothes, books, movies, furniture, whatever. And if you need help getting the stuff, let us know. We need all of the stuff by Friday, April 13th so that we can price it. We will also need people to work shifts for the garage sale. And, we need people to bring baked goods either the night of April 13th, or the morning of April 14th. Don't forget, this is a fundraiser and the same rules apply for this that were outlined in the commitment contract you signed! I need everyone to email me back and let me know: 1. What time slot do you want to work on April 14th? 6:30AM - 8:00AM 8:00AM - 10:00AM 10:00AM - 12:00PM 12:00PM - 2:00PM 2. Can you help set up the morning of April 14th? 5:30AM - 6:30AM 3. Can you bring a baked good? If so, what are you bringing and when? If you have any questions please let me or Jennifer know! Fundraiser Info

Hey everyone, We need to have a fundraiser this semester and I was thinking that we do a combo bake sale and garage sale. The calendar look pretty empty so I thought that April 14 (Saturday). I am going to call the paper to see how much an ad would cost. We can use my house for it so the only thing we need to start getting together are items. I know that some of you are going home for Spring Break (yea!) so this would be a great time to get all of that useless stuff around the house and bring it back. Also talk to your friends to see if they have anything lying around. Old chairs, clothes, dishes, whatever. It will all be great. If you have something that is really huge and you cannot keep in you house/dorm/apartment until the sale, let me know because I can probably store it at my house. As for the bake sale part, it's pretty self explanatory. You just have to bring your baked goods and we will use the gift card we got from walmart to get a lot of it including drinks so at lease that will hopefully be all profit. I am thinking that people will help us out with the baked goods even if they don't buy anything. I know this was long but I wanted to make sure I told you everything. One more thing, if your buddy or his/her family has stuff they want to donate, that would be awesome. The more stuff we have, the more we can sell, and the more cash we'll have in our account. Email me if you have any questions about this but if I don't see you before then, have a fun and safe Spring Break! Jennifer Game Night Overview

Regarding our Membership Coordinator
02.05.07
Hello everyone, I am writing all of you to let you know that unfortunately Kyndel Macik is no longer enrolled at SFA and is therefore no longer able to be involved with Best Buddies. We have therefore had to replace her in the Membership Coordinator officer position. Our new Membership Coordinator is Sherika Morrow! I am sure we are all sad to see Kyndel go, but happy for our new officer Sherika. So congrats Sherika, and Kyndel, we will miss you at our events! This also means that Brandy has lost her buddy, but we have chosen not to rematch her at this time. She will however still be welcome at all of our activities, so I hope you will all do your best to keep her involved and included. On another note, our College Buddy/Associate Night is fast approaching. It is scheduled for Monday, February 12th from 7-830pm and will be dinner at Bullfrog's, so everyone please check out your calendar and RSVP. For those of you who have already RSVPed I edited the event details to include the actual location of Bullfrog's and somehow it messed up and undid your responses. Sorry about that. Anyway, hope to see you all there! Apply to be CBD or another officer for next year!
02.01.07
Hello everyone! I hope your semesters have all started off well. I am writing to inform you that all of you who will be returning undergraduates to SFA in the Fall are eligible to apply to be the College Buddy Director or a Best Buddies officer for the 2007-2008 school year. Being in Best Buddies is rewarding, and knowing that you are contributing to the Best Buddies chapter by being an officer is even more so. The College Buddy Director (that is the position I hold) is the person who is in charge of organizing, leading, and maintaining a chartered Best Buddies chapter, and also making sure that members fulfill the mission of Best Buddies by maintaining their commitment. This person works with the Host Site Coordinator, Program Manager and other officers to accomplish all of this. They also delegate tasks to the officers so that everyone is working together and the chapter is running smoothly. The College Buddy Director is a great position for someone who is organized, enjoys being involved, and is a leader. As College Buddy Director you will be required to attend Leadership Conference from July 20th through the 23rd, 2007. The cost is $275 for registration, which will be raised through chapter fundraising. Leadership Conference is an amazing experience that you will remember for the rest of your life. College Buddy Directors and High School Chapter Presidents from all over the world attend, as well as Program Managers, State Directors, and even Anthony Kennedy Shriver, the founder of Best Buddies! The other officer positions available are the Activities Coordinator, who comes up with and plans the monthly activities, the Treasurer, who manages the Best Buddies funds and tries to secure funding, the Membership Coordinator, who helps ensure that all friendships are being maintained, the e-Buddies Coordinator/Secretary, who promotes the e-Buddies program and does friendship updates, and the Historian, who takes pictures at every event and scrapbooks them. Attached are the officer application and also the application for CBD. Anyone who is interested should print out the application (you will need acrobat to open them), complete it, and let me know that they are applying. If you are applying for CBD you will be required to do an interview with the Program Manager, Courtney Crooks. She will be in Nacogdoches and available all day on Tuesday, Feb. 20th, the day of our activity. If this does not work for you then other arrangements can be made. You can definitely apply for both an officer position and CBD, and I strongly encourage all of you to apply!!! Officer application CBD application Meeting Overview
